Insurance

Have just been ringing around for quotes for new horse's insurance - huge variation in prices!

Highest was PetPlan £715.00, next NFU £602.00 and last SEIB £489.00 - all for loss of animal, public liability of £2m and £5000 vets fees with excess of £135.

How come they are all so different - is it just because of the size of the companies?

I'm cheesed off with NFU as although I've insured my current horse for 7 ot of the last 8 years, and my house for 15 I do not qualify for any form of reduction....

Are SEIB any good does anyone know?

I've heard lots of people use them. They'd be my choice if I chose to insure. Don't use E and L. It stands for excuses and lies!

Also worth trying Shearwater and KBIS.

Agree on E&L....avoid, avoid, avoid Smile

Petplan and NFU are fine. I self-insure though and put the equivalent sum in an account to cover vets fees. Most vets will accept instalments anyway. BHS membership covers 3rd party. Freezemark to deter theft.

PS I think SEIB are fine too but I have never used them! Second the comment on E&L though I heard that they were improving..
