Am intending to show dpony this summer - lead rein and in hand. He's a SecA grey, 4yo.

I think I have a lead rein outfit sorted - black and white tweed long skirt suit (have black culottes too), boots, black hat. But is it ruffly blouse or plain for M&M ? And does this sound OK ?

Am a bit lost on the in hand though - what is most correct ? Should I do dk brown cords, tweedy waistcoat, shirt, tie and flat cap sort of thing ?

Its not like I plan on doing anything super posh, but since I need to buy something, and ebay is my friend, would prefer not to look like a nitwit - or have to rush out and spend proper money on things

Black would be unusual for a M&M - that sounds more show pony.

For M&M LR you'd normally wear long navy skirt or culottes and tweed jacket. Underneath a jumper or blouse that toned in with the jacket and not really ruffly.

Most people have jackets for leader and child that match - often identical fabric.

Boots sound good although normally flat shoes in summer are the preference.

Hat would normally be either tweed to match jacket or blue to match skirt. Never seen anybody wear a black hat.

Your In hand outfit sounds fine although not my expertise. Have shown M&Ms in-hand but only in jacket/cords/shirt/tie/cap or trilby I know that M&M LR specialists then to wear waistcoats and trainers - completely alien to me!

We have just got these season's outfits from www.mrscandy.co.uk/gold/index.html

We're also teaming up the brown/orange tweed with brown Charles Owen hats for something a little different!

Have a look there for some ideas.

I should say that DW/DD's new jackets are The Emily tweed from Mrs Candy. They will be having matching cream shirts/orange ties and DD has an orange scrunchy.

They plan to do pairs on matching palominos!

We're going to sell last year's matching tweed jackets on Ebay - hardly worn.

Wow, you will all look fab - am nowhere in your league though.

The suit looks grey from a distance, but will look for something different. I have a bit of trouble with hats due to a v large head, so the ladies hats don't fit me.

Would it be inappropriate to ask what size jackets you have for sale ?

I grew up showing goats, and although the animal bit was as pernickety, as a handler all you had to do was chuck a clean white coat on

hi - i dressed dd and me for lead rein last yr, she has a beautiful tweed showing selection jkt off ebay , paid about £50 , i then took it round a few horsey shops like countrywide and founda tweed hacking jkt for me from shires which is almost perfect match ( i do not look good in the usual lead rein jkts buttoned ot neck with madarin collars) i put dd in white shirt and purple and gold spot tie ( jkt has gold and purple overcheck) and purple hair ribbons. i have ivory silk stock, navy culottes ( m+s)and flat navy shoes ( had already) my hat is navy waxy thing from barbour. do not foget child needs yellow jods and brown or oxblood boots, and navy velvet hat with flesh strap ( charles owen bought new £ 120)
we did it mostly form ebay for dd , and whole thing for both of us cost about £400 .
This is the standard required even for the little local shows to be honest with you.
we did well in tack and turn out and l/r but still up against people turned out to Butkin's standard ( which is obviously several leagues baove mine ) even at little shows.

Hi Mummydoc - do you think we probably take the showing game a tad seriously?!

What are your plans for the season?

All being well DD will start off on the palomino FR at Towerlands on March 6th and then go to the BSPS Winter Champs in April. After that we're doing RIHS qualifers but only those within easy reach (I got a mention in last week's H&H regarding fuel prices!).

The roan has yet to perfect his individual show enough to do FRs in the immediate future. He'll stick to pony club jumping for the time being. He has to go as DD outgrowing him but probably not until after PC Camp in August.

DW is slowly getting her Connie going. Her main aims are the Picton qualifers and the novice M&M WHP at Suffolk.

CMOT, we've just put our mother/daughter green tweed jackets on Ebay - separate listings. You will find them as Shires Malvern green tweed show jackets. 24" for the childs and 38" for the adults (Butlerthecob).

They look more brown than green but that is just the photos - you can see the actual colours on the Shires site.
