Washing & drying a sheepskin numnah

I've just treated myself the nag to a lovely sheepskin numnah - however, how to wash & dry? It says not to expose to direct heat - however, the last time I left one to dry "naturally" it made the entire house smell of rotting sheep. Hmm

Any tips?

Hmm
Don't know much about numnahs (as in how big they are) but I washed some sheepskin at the weekend, just wait for a dry looking day and line dry?

Then you can expose to some heat (i.e. near a radiator not ON one) once it's mostly dry for the fluffing phase?

It should have washing instructions with it but if it is like a sheepskin rug then put it in the washing machine on wool wash (or hand wash) with a little bit of human hair conditioner in the final rinse, line dry it and then finish it off in a warm place as OliviaMumsnet said.

When it is dry, fluff it up with a dog brush or wool brush.

I will try as Olivia says to find a dry & windy day... it's just they can end up a bit "ponky" if left damp. Still... the dogs love the smell. Hmm
