How hot was your classroom today and is your school closing?

So, how hot was your room today?

Mine is on the north side of the building and ground floor so one of the coolest in the building but still got to 26.5. I don’t do well in the heat so dreading the rest of the week.

We have been that we might go hybrid with some teams learning but I think that would be unlikely. Anyone school’s closed for some of the week or closing early some days?

Children are allowed to be colllected early at our school, and most local schools. But the school is open for all who want to stay. Home learning set for those collected early.

Which means it'll be hard to get any meaningful learning done in the afternoon. There will be no accountability for the work done at home, so most won't do it. What a Jolly mess.

Got to 26 degrees yesterday in one of the rooms I teach in. It was bearable as have blinds and two fans. But it was difficult to concentrate. Students were good but complained a bit. We are lucky as several rooms in the school have air conditioning so the classes in hot rooms are being moved to cooler rooms as much as possible. School uniform is relaxed for the week. The office and staff room are hot. I have a desk fan and cooling towel which I will use if needed. The school won’t close early.

I am on the 4th floor, north facing and it reached 30° today 🥵 I didn't have a full teaching day either! Colleague opposite on the South facing side got to 31.5°!!

It was so hot and despite opening windows/doors and fans, there was no breeze. It was a real struggle.

No closure or early closures. Kids can wear pe kit if they want.

Dreading tomorrow as it's set to be hotter and I have a full day.

28 this afternoon in a primary school in the north of England - try teaching a recorder lesson in that heat! School not closing. Children very disengaged and disruptive.

I avoided any energetic movement games, mandated water breaks but it was a very difficult lesson! I was not allowed to change the lesson from recorder as “that’s what they employ me to do”

30 degrees in the classroom ... decision made to close this afternoon, after a day of just giving children quiet activities whilst trying to keep cool, and trying to manage the children who were struggling to regulate because of the heat.

School I am long term supply at, is closing tomorrow and Thursday. Correct decision. It is forecast to be 38 degrees tomorrow where I live. Today the children were so hot, bothered, and irritated that little learning could take place. Too hot to go out for PE, too hot to concentrate, too hot to all go in the hall for assembly etc. No point in school being open with flustered, hot and bothered staff managing irritated children who are too hot to be able to learn.

We stayed open this morning. We normally have sports on a Wednesday afternoon which were cancelled. Some rooms were getting into the 30s, mine felt cool in comparison at only 28.

We are kinda closing tomorrow - day pupils not expected in but can if needed, boarders will still be there. All work to be set on teams and off site staff don’t need to be in. Any students on site will be in the coolest rooms (IT rooms as they have AC).

Mine was 30° at 8:40. I was lucky I could take a small group of sixth formers outside Period 1 and then got re-roomed to one of the few classrooms with air con for Period 3 and 4. We closed at 1, but we taught 4/5 lessons. I felt sick when I got home both today and yesterday.

BatsInHibernation · 25/06/2026 18:37

I don't know how hot my own room was today but I felt sick when I got home. A colleague yesterday recorded late thirties in their room. My daughter at a different school has felt sick both days.
Friday is my non working day thank goodness or I would be feeling panicked by tomorrow's forecast and I am worried for my colleagues. Son at a different high school is finishing early at 1pm.
I'm thinking of keeping my daughter at home tomorrow. She is 11. She will get a heat rash and feel nauseous tomorrow if she goes in.

shardlakem · Yesterday 20:06

30 in my room without children (SE England) Colleague told off by the head for unbuttoning his top button....

sakura06 · Yesterday 21:45

So sorry to hear about the madness some of you have to endure. Top buttons done up and meetings after school. Have SLT no humanity?!

DoubtIdo · Yesterday 22:45

31 in my room with the air conditioning on. It's basically a shed though with windows that get the sun until about 2pm.
