Brief outline- AHT in a primary school where there has been a difficult period with changes in leadership. Previously acted up as DHT for 6 months and currently acting up as DHT again since October.

Applied for DHT post when advertised and was only candidate. Post to be readvertised next academic year.

Feedback was that all criteria was met, but it was felt I had not had long enough to prove effectiveness at DHT level but assured performance was considered good.

Unsure where to go with this, too late to look for another job and feeling I am about to be replaced. Anybody been here and got advice?

Reading between the lines although I could be wrong - they are clearly looking for an external candidate to bring in new experience to aid in moving the school forward which I guess is what is needed given the turbulence.

You are likely to be in the role until December 2026 given notice periods - so I’d be using the time to develop your experience further whilst actively looking at alternative Deputy Head roles.
