Followed by a conversation about teachers being asked for preferences of year groups for next year, what is your favourite year group to teach? Thinking of primary but secondary might be interesting too.

I always base my preference on the cohort of children rather than the year group 😆

I'm secondary so always have more than one year group but Y10 and Y11 are my favourites.

I like it when students are older, can understand humour, are starting to form opinions about the world. I enjoy supporting students through their exams and seeing them plan their next steps in life. Stressful at times but very rewarding as well.

Year 12! They becoming almost human and out of the teenage stage, you have have some proper conversations. They have picked the subject so the really want to do it (I’m lucky no one does my subject as they need to make up their 3). Love the conversations about the future and university applications but without the stress and pressure of year 13.

Year 12 was perhaps my favourite year of secondary school as a teen 😀

I teach Yr7-13 and I think they've all got their merits. I love Yrs 11-13 because they're heading off into the wide world and you get to see them get ready for the future 😭But I also like the cheeky KS3 years, they're just getting to grips with being teens and you really feel like you're growing a little person. I've taught for 17 years now and I definitely think there's something new to find with every cohort.
