Back to school scaries!!

Anyone else?

Back on Monday- have 2 INSET days which will help. I have a few new staff in my team (we are a new school, going into Y4 so this is normal). Starting the GCSE this year as well - I'm HoD of a core subject so the pressure is there!

Lots I'm actually looking forward to but I will miss lazy starts to the day and not living life at a million miles an hour 😕

Son is starting secondary next week as well- he is absolutely ready and excited but it's a new stage for us.

Logically, I know all is going to be fine, but start of term nerves are just rubbish!

I always get the jitters. I liken it to jumping into a cool pool, I know I will enjoy it when I get going but I don’t what that initial cold shock.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/08/2025 16:19

@JamesWebbSpaceTelescope that's a good analogy!

I know I will be OK once we get going, but the build up and anticipation always gets me.

I've had a grey cloud following me round all week as tomorrow gets closer and closer, now I just want tomorrow to be over and done with, well actually Wednesday as we have two INSET days to get through first. Once the students are back and we get going it will all be much better.

40 working days til the next holiday...

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 31/08/2025 13:47

Don’t count the term away! Back to school nerves are normal but you shouldn’t live for the holidays.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 31/08/2025 13:49

The photo I included didn’t work. I’ll try again.

I’m forcing myself to not do too much today.

@VintedVintage we also have 2 INSET days!

I find it a lot easier when the kids are back.

Been just pottering at home today and making sure things are sorted for tomorrow.

Been working on and off from A-Level results day - some days in school, some days at home.

we have two inset days this week - Monday and Tuesday, New Year 7s and Year 11 and Sixth form are back Wednesday, the rest of the school on Thursday!

This is also my final year in teaching and I’m going into my 40th year - and my 19th as a HT.
I’ve already booked a holiday for this time next year! 🥳

Enjoy your retirement holiday!!

We have the same start pattern, except new year 7, year 9s (boarding school so it is a big intact for us) and sixth form.

Well, I didn't sleep well last night (Sunday) but I have actually quite enjoyed today and getting things sorted for the new academic year.

It was great to see my team- both new and returning!

Another INSET tomorrow, including time with my department so that will be nice.

It's going to be a year of hard work (but then it always is!) but I am feeling positive.

I hope everyone else had a good day!

Back tomorrow- really dreading it. Last year was hell (though I LOVED my class) and due to a few different things I am trapped in my school until results improve. I'm the go-to-gal for anyone who is stressed or sad and I'm dreading having to hold myself together as well as everyone else.

PumpkinPie2016 · 02/09/2025 19:20

@APintOfWine2025 I'm so sorry you are dreading the return.

It sounds as though things are really tough at your school 😔

I hope tomorrow isn't as bad as you are fearing.

I’ve only had 2 days of inset and I’m knackered.
