Shadowing

My DD is doing Sociology at uni and is interested in education policy. She feels it would be a good idea to shadow a teacher for a day (or more) to get an idea of that side of things. We live walking distance to three primary schools. Is it appropriate to email the headmistress/masters with this request? Is it a normal thing to do? She’s not on a teacher training thing or anything like that, but feels she only knows the student POV and this really is for her own edification rather than as part of any course or paper. Thanks.

Yeah - it’s fine. You can only ask and see if this can be managed, but in my experience most teachers are happy to accommodate these type of requests.
