Protest and impact on DBS

Hello all,

A bit of an unusual one - my husband has been hugely affected by the conflict in Gaza and is keen to attend a highly-politicised demo in the next couple of weeks. Given the nature of the demo (in the name of Palestine Action) the likelihood of arrest is quite high.

I am currently an Assistant Head and worried about whether his being linked to a proscribed group might impact my DBS status. If so, there’s no way he’ll go (he’s already reassured me of this). Any ideas?

This is definitely a question for the legal advice team at your union, but don't be disappointed if they can't give you a clear answer. They will probably advise you and your DH to err on the side of caution. There's very little clarity on the current situation and there is no case law as yet. An Enhanced DBS can technically look at a third party who lives in your household.

@ThanksItHasPocketsthank you for your reply - I’ve emailed my union today, but husband has agreed not to attend this protest as he understands the impact it could have. Will post any reply I’m given in case of use to others 😊
