Supply TA tips

I'm about to start supply TAing in September for the first time. Any tips?

I'll be mainly doing advanced bookings so no rushing round at 730am after a call!

Any tips from teachers, what do you want from your supply and how can I make a good impression?

Arrive early at school every day and spend the necessary time to set up classroom with the teacher, prepare any resources that are needed - and perhaps enough time to have a meeting with the class teacher to discuss priorities for the day ahead.

Be hands on and be supportive, behaviour management - support the class teacher with controlling the class.

I’m a supply TA and have been for a year. I prefer advanced bookings but this week I did an on the day one, I ve tried to say no to on the day but I’ll get a call anyway, I need to sort that as it’s quite stressful.

Hope your first few weeks went ok. I ve never arrived early as you aren’t paid until certain times and the school don’t expect me before 8.30. (I do go early on the first day to get the dbs checked and shown where to go etc)

I usually end up in provisions and nurseries because that’s where the staff are needed but I’d like some mainstream soon too.
