My wife is a deputy head within a primary school while I work in the IT industry as a software developer. One of her annual tasks involved organising children into equally distributed classes for the following academic year, which was always time consuming and prone to errors. Striking the right balance of abilities with an equal distribution of boys and girls was tricky enough, but additionally she needed to take into account friendships and separate pupils who together were a disruptive influence. Additionally there were specific requests from parents to consider.
