ECT mentor

Looks like I am going to be an ECT mentor next year AC vs looking to upskill before September. I will be working with ISTIP if that makes any difference.

Anyone know anything I can do to get myself in a good place?

Make sure you are give the time to do it!
You need time to observe and time to meet.

School tends to be good in that regard not too worried about that.

With the last GCSE on Monday I have some gained time so want to get myself set up if there is any online training.

The appropriate body we use do all of their mentor training in September, which is worse than useless.

I'd get in touch with them and see what they offer.

I’ve looked on ISTIP website and their training is in September, which is, as you say, useless. I want to get off to a strong start. Will keep looking online and see if I spot anything.

I suspect you'll have to do their training since each programme is slightly different

Just a shame there is nothing generic I can do in advance to get myself ready.

I’ve been mentoring with ISTIP this year. They’re quite straightforward to be honest. I don’t know if you have a login or anything yet, but if you do have a look at their resources. Encourage your ECT to get into the habit of logging everything on their Evidence Tracker (so if you can log in, download that) - that makes report writing so much easier. They also have examples of what to include on the reports in their resources.
