Moving away gift

Good morning all,

I'm organising our end of year class gift for our lovely teacher.
Her and her equally lovely Husband, who also teaches at the school, are moving to teach abroad- Thailand if that helps.

I'm going to buddy up with his class rep and pool our resources (usually around £150 each) and get them a gift.
We normally do John Lewis vouchers...

But, I know they are getting rid of all of their 'stuff' when they move, so hardly need a new toaster.

If you were moving abroad, what gift/voucher would be the best thing you'd like receive?

Thoughts on a postcard please x

I’d still say John Lewis vouchers. They might want to buy some decent sandals, cotton clothes, travel accessories.
Maybe add in something to keep from the school as a memento if time with logos, photos, messages from staff and children. Maybe on a USB for portability?

I’d get the money changed into Thai currency- they’ll appreciate that thoughtful gesture so much!

Are you a student or a member of staff?

its a nice gesture and only £5 per student - but check to see if there is a policy regarding high value or cash gifts.

in regard to gifts, you could get them a voucher for a restaurant before they do move…. Or give cash in That Bhat.
John Lewis vouchers or any other UK retailers I would avoid. It limits them.

Yes, this exactly. A restaurant voucher sounds good and you can make something like a goodbye video for her, ask other staff members/parents who are willing to participate to record themselves/their kids saying something nice to her and then join these videos together. There are plenty of free tools that can help you do that like https://clipify.net/ or https://online-video-cutter.com/merge-videos, and then you can either email this to her or play it to her if there is a goodbye party or something like that. However, I'd email it to her either way just so she could have it.
