Part time Monday pay- STPC

fatgirlswims · 22/04/2025 08:45

Does anyone know where I stand regarding having Monday as a non working day.

I am 0.8 and should work 0.8 of 190 (for the 5 inset do 5 and get paid for one)

190x0.8=152

However I am working two days more than comparable 0.8 colleagues who have a different day off in the week because they get two extra days off -Easter Monday and May BH Monday.

I have raised with HR who have said my pay is correct with no elaboration. Someone has suggested that it is a technical clause within STPC.

Can anyone advise how I can challenge this?

ACAS? Union? Solicitor?

I thought this was just tough to be honest - if bank holidays fall within our holidays we don't get extra time off in lieu, same applies here I thought...

I always count how many days I’m working over the full year. If it’s over by 1, I probably wouldn’t worry too much about it, but if it’s more than that I would talk to someone. Would it take you over your directed hours for the year?

Thanks @CeciliaMarsi fear this may well be the case

I’m just really cash poor as we have just moved house and had some expensive holidays bikes before we moved (and of course it’s a Reno) soon could do with the money!

I’ll just do a few days supply! hopefully at my own school- but the school is skint! Also so I can cannot increase my hours for the same reason. (nor do I want to but fear I may have to)

Great point - I highly doubt it but worth a check

could you do some tutoring? Just 2-3 hours a week can make a significant difference financially…

fatgirlswims · 23/04/2025 17:55

Yes I could but firstly I don’t want to do it my home- Can you do it in the students home? secondly I feel overwhelmed with setting up a business and planning ideas.

if anyone has any tips for setting up as tutor that would be helpful.

And also what is the going rate

OP posts:
CeciliaMars · 23/04/2025 18:42

It depends where you live and what you tutor. I live in the south east. The going rate is approx £30-£35 an hour for normal tutoring and £40-£45 for 11+ tutoring. Once you get your name out there with one or two schools, you’ll get all your students through word of mouth.

CeciliaMars · 23/04/2025 18:43

I’ve done a mix of my house and their house over the years. Most people would prefer you to go to them, but the downside is you then have to factor in travel time and cost. I tutor one evening a week and Saturday mornings.

I have the same contract as you and asked about this in a year where there were two bank holidays (May and the Queen’s Jubilee) and got told it was tough. I think I did work out how many days I’d done though, and it wasn’t actually more than I should have (we finish on one Wednesday before a half term so that helps).
