Tips for Year 3

I’ve just found out that I will be moving to a Year 3 class after most of my career in KS1 and years in EYFS. Hoping for some advice, tips or recommendations on how to prepare for this move…

Y3 are still very young and many lack independence. You're laying the foundation for KS2, so set routines and keep reinforcing them. Y3 love praise, stickers and things like that. Look at the curriculum content and chat to Y2 teachers to build a picture about what they can do. Check school progression documents like calculations policy, marking policy and talk to colleagues about expectations. You may find it useful to watch colleagues teach the year group before you start. Be rigorous on spelling, times tables, handwriting, reading fluency and the elements of grammar taught from KS1 - Y3.
