My name is Ben and I’m currently studying a degree in Human Behavioural Studies.
For my dissertation I’m investigating individual differences within teachers and teaching assistants, specifically looking at whether personality type and motivation type can affect their suitability for their career.
As I’m sure you are aware, the education system is currently experiencing a staffing crisis. Recent studies indicate that only 33% of teachers who qualified in the last 5-years are still teaching, while 44% of current teachers and 73% of current teaching assistants are considering a career change.
The overall aim of my study is to suggest that both personality and motivation assessments could be used as part of the recruitment process for both teachers and teaching assistants. With the potential outcomes being improved teacher retention rates, more engaged teaching assistants, and ultimately an improved educational setting for students to thrive.
