I’ve only worked in 2 schools so I’m curious, obviously I’ve posted here stating how bad my MH is due to something that happened at work. I’m just not doing so great. I’ve been contacted while I’ve been off by phone and email.

In terms of moving forward, as I’m moving on elsewhere, when I potentially leave there, can this current school be contacted for references. Of course I’m aware they can, however, is it common, if so, I’m generally a good worker (that’s not me blowing my trumpet just generally from appraisals and results etc) but could me being off sick impair future references? I’m slightly concerned about that.

Sorry if it’s a silly question just seeking reassurance as I’m already anxious enough.

Are you a teacher or support staff?

If you are the former; have you let your HT know that you’ve applied /applying for jobs elsewhere - they will likely contact before interview.

If I was you, I’d just be honest about the situation of your absence and explain it and just mention how it no longer impacts you. No surprises when the references come back then.

In all honesty, it depends how the reference form is sent? Could be a couple of questions?

  • Dates of employment
  • Job Role
  • Responsibilities
  • would you re-employ? If no, why not…
