Hi my son has been given some homework about double Diagraphs. I have never heard of them .

Google suggests a diagraph is the phonics sounds oo, ch, ee. Etc

So what makes a double diagraph?

A digraph is two letters making one sound. I have never heard of a double digraph. I wonder if it’s the same two letters, so ee or oo. What is the homework?

So it's the following spellings-

Suggest
Convenience
Marvellous
Twelfth
Sincerely
Brilliance
Essentially
Opportunity

And they have to split them into double diagraphs and non double diagraphs

sheep has two digraphs - sh and ee

However I've never heard of the phrase double digraph.

So marvellous, essentially and opportunity? What strange homework!

Brilliance if the ce is a digraph

I wondered if that's what it meant literally two diagraphs in one word.

Glad it's not just me.

It doesn't make sense. If it's just asking for which ones have double letters, it's concerning that the person who set it doesn't know what digraphs are, and also it's a very easy task...

I've never heard a teacher use this term before, but hazard a guess that it means digraphs with a double letter e.g ll, pp, ss, gg ?
