Being transparent about pay?

I applied for a job. Got the job. It comes with a TLR. I was speaking with a colleague about the lengthy application process and how it states I need to disclose current pay. Currently my academy are paying me significantly less than main scale pay. So I was honest and put my current pay which includes a TLR.

My friend at work said “oh you shouldn’t have done that. They might have given you a bit more in relation to the TLR if you weren’t so honest. Is this true? I’m now slightly worried. Nothing can be done to change things now though I suppose.

When I have written references they have often asked for the current salary. You did the right thing. You don't want dishonesty to cloud you.
