I have been told that I took some days off work and other staff queried with SLT why I take the days off because it's difficult to cover my lessons

How dare they! Tell them you went on a quick trip to the Maldives for a few days.

Cover while you are absent is absolutely not your problem.

Can you speak to a member of SLT? Hopefully the SLT told the staff who asked that it was nothing to do with them why you were absent.
