Comfortable shoes

I'm taking medication that gives me swollen ankles and aching knees/joints. After a full day on my feet, my feet and legs are in agony.

I teach in Primary and cover lots of classes from EYFS to Y4. I need some comfortable shoes that aren't frumpy.

If I could get away with wearing Sketchers I would but they aren't really smart enough.

I've just bought some hotter brand ones they seem comfy

Have you looked at the Skechers slip-in styles? They look less like trainers and I don't know of any primary schools where they would be a problem, but TBH you have a medical need which requires you to wear specific footwear so if lace-up Skechers are better then your HT should be willing to agree an adjustment to the usual dress code.

I did look on the Sketchers website last night and there are a couple of ballerina type shoes I could get away with.

We have a local outlet store, so I'm going to have a look at the weekend.

If it's a medical issue, talk to the head! You should be allowed to wear comfortable footwear.

Since Covid Most of us wear trainers a lot of the time at my primary. Much more practical.

You don't need to "get away with" anything. Your HT should be making adjustments due to medical need. If they won't, seek advice from your union.

Ecco shoes? Not sure if they’re smart enough but comfier than Hotter and more robust in my experience.

I feel I ought to get slightly smarter shoes. Might get orthotics and shop around. Clarks seem to stock fewer shoes these days.

DizzyDandilion · 08/09/2024 21:14

It has to be said others are smarter than me but I do wear Skechers slip on style trainers with pretend, elastic laces.
I am a TA and I do notice teachers often somewhat better dressed than me! Mind you, so are other TAs! Obviously, I'm a scruff....

DizzyDandilion · 08/09/2024 21:15

Have also worn Easyfit shoes...

menopausalmare · 09/09/2024 18:58

Try Pavers. Less frumpy than Hotter.

JaffavsCookie · 11/09/2024 21:48

I wear sketchers, if the head ever decides to challenge me i would be reminding them that i was permanently injured on a school trip so slightly scruffy footwear should be permitted.

I bought a pair of black HeyDude wendys for this year. They are super comfortable and go fine at the bottom of a pair of suit trousers.

try the loafers from Terraloom. they are extremely comfortable
