AQA marking - English

I am currently marking LP2 for AQA. I hate it. It’s so laborious. I’m head of literacy at school on a full timetable and had been mentoring a trainee too. At the end of the evening I like to de stress at the gym by the time I’ve done all that I sit down at about 10 pm, I mark for one hour. I have to admit, I’ve found it really hard I’m only at 40% for q2/3/4/5 completion. And I’m aware it needs to be completed by Sunday. Do they offer extensions? If not. Is it unlikely I’d get paid for this work.

70 % is the threshold to trigger payment

If you don't reach this then you are paid at results day.

It's very late for results now for English- have you passed the deadline?

I'd just email and say you can't do any more if you don't want to.

You should be warned that there's a clause in your contract that you can't criticise the board on social media, so you may wish to get MNHQ to take this thread down - but before you do, and because I'm not under contract and am free to say the following: exam marking really isn't worth it any more and I have talked to a lot of teachers of English who have come to the same conclusion this year. The money is very poor but it's never been especially lucrative. It always used to be that examining was great CPD. When I first started marking (and I'm being careful not to name any boards here) there was really good quality face-to-face training for all examiners and the insights were really worthwhile. Now they've cut everything back so hard that the only people who receive the decent training are the team leaders, and the quality of the guidance that you get as an examiner is entirely dependent on having a good team leader.

You will be paid for the scripts that you have marked, but you haven't reached the 70% trigger for auto-payment so you may have to wait a while. You will likely be able to continue marking into next week but once the cap is lifted some of your allocation may be re-allocated to other examiners. You can withdraw if you just want to stop.

PS don't forget you will need to do a tax return for this financial year to declare the earnings, so make sure you calculate the tax payable and put it to one side.

As a pp has said, you need to get this taken down. But please feel free to pm me.

That isn't correct.
