Job offer

I recently received a job offer as a teacher, and most of the terms and conditions are acceptable. However, they are not paying me if an INSET day or school event falls on my non-teaching day. I tried to negotiate, but it didn't work—What shall I do?

You just don't go on those days.

It's a private school and they mentioned that these days are non-negotiable. I need this job but not happy about it as I'm just 0.6

Sorry OP: independent schools can set their own pay and conditions so if they have refused to negotiate you need to decide whether or not this is a deal-breaker for you. The FTE of the salary is around £40k, which approximately corresponds to M1 in the maintained sector. Remember to factor in the value (or cost) of the pension scheme (if not TPS), fee discounts, and any other parts of the overall package.
