Part-time assistant head

Hi everyone,
I’m going for an internal assistant head role and I’m currently part-time. I don’t want to be full-time.

Do any of you have part-time assistant heads at your school? How does it work? Main issue I can see is that if I’m line managing a year group or subject/s and there’s an urgent issue on a day I don’t work then how does that get dealt with?

Ta!

My school has a part time deputy.

Their work gets soaked up by other members of the SLT. It does create a little resentment if I'm honest.

Our SLT have to be full time. Have you asked if a part time person would be considered?

As the last poster said - have you checked to see if they would consider a part time role/ job share?

How many days do you plan to do? Can’t see an issue as such with 4 days but anything less then yes there possibly could be issues.

In our school (secondary) you would have to be full time. I am an AHT and I don’t really see how the job could be done part time. For example, we meet daily, share daily responsibilities, attend after school meetings, detentions, and events most evenings. I think it would be hard to stay abreast of everything you would need to and that fairness would be an issue.

Meant to add… I think you should go for it, just consider whether you could offer to go full time for the role.
