Going back full time

I work in Scotland and I currently work part time (0.6). I want to return to teaching full time next year but have been told to do so I need to apply and interview for a job in my own school.

Has anyone had experience of this? It seems really silly to me that I had a full time post which I was qualified to do but now I need to apply and interview again.

There are people leaving my work so the days will become available. Surely I am more use to my school as a full time teacher than part time.

It's just ridiculous isn't it and another stupid thing the education system is guilty of.

One of my colleagues went from 3 days to 4 and she didn't need to reapply.

What are their reasonings?

Cost?

RosiePosey33 · 11/05/2024 06:55

@bg yes! Especially when my head doesn't like the fact there is currently so many part time staff.

Surely I'm more use to them as full time.

@BG2015 do you mean the cost of them taking me back on full time?

As I said there are teachers retiring next year so they now won't be getting paid. I realise post- probationers etc are cheaper to employ but this would be yet another part time member of staff.

@BG2015 just said because when I dropped my days they went to someone else so effectively that part of my job is gone.

But I said to my husband, if I'm qualified to teach 3 days a week and there is another job available, surely it's crazy that I need to interview again for 2 days. If I don't get it they are essentially saying you're qualified and fit to teach 3 days a week but not another 2. It's mad.

There are actually 4 people this year who have dropped down days as well.
