What to do?

A colleague told me a school had asked my current school for a reference but I wasn't subsequently offered an interview.

I asked my head and he was honest and he put on the reference that i have in the past needed support with my behaviour management so therefore for the question would you employ this person again, he answered no. He also rang this head and had an off the record conversation ( old colleague from ages ago) I feel gutted that despite making great strides in this area and that they are now happy with my behaviour management, it's still not enough and feels like my head wields all the power and I have none and my career is finished.

I'm an ECT2 on track. My ECT1 was as a maternity cover at a different school, with no issues whatsoever. This is a fixed year contract.

Any advice on how to deal with this? And even how to face tomorrow!

No advice but poor you…. Take care of yourself. Horrible situation to be in.

Ahhh that is so annoying - but the harsh reality is that they’ve had to back up what their reasoning is for not re-employing you again.

You can have a chat with the HT and ask for an ‘agreed reference’ as it sounds like mutually you are best leaving the school.

I do find it a bit weird that on saying would they hire again, they said "no" even though it sounds like these are things you've learned to improve and, as you mentioned, it was in the past?

Perhaps I've misunderstood, but I feel like if you've made progress, to say you wouldn't hire someone again is misguided, as you will have shown you can reflect and improve?

Would agree with another reply maybe best to speak to Head and agree on a mutually beneficial reference.

Best of luck!
