Interviews

I'm leaving my current school and applying for jobs and wondered about accepting positions and the etiquette involved. I have an interview for school A and have submitted an application to school B.

School A's interview is Friday. The application date hasn't passed for school B (so may not be offered an interview) but it would take place 1.5 weeks after School A's. My question is (and I know I'm getting way ahead here) if School A offer me the position, can I provisionally accept and still interview for School B? If school B did subsequently offer a job, could I rescind my acceptance to school A? This seems really bad etiquette but also wouldn't want to turn down a job if School B don't give me a job offer.

No, you can't. If you're offered the job, you will be given a very short window in which to decide.

Thanks - I know I would have to accept or decline quickly. I wondered if it's common practice to still interview for other schools and rescind the agreement (as long as contracts aren't signed etc.)

Absolutely not. You wouldn't be rescinding but reneging on a verbal contract, and it is considered very poor form indeed. School A won't wait a week and a half to find out if you are shortlisted for School B, and then likely another week for you to interview. I'm sorry but this is the nature of recruitment in education, especially in Summer 1.

Not at all - and it is unprofessional doing that. You need to decide what school you actually want.
If you accept School A, you cannot rescind the offer because B offered you a job.
Catch 22 situation I know but you got to really decide what you want…
