Paying back maternity pay

Just wondering whether anyone knows if teachers need to pay back their enhanced mat pay in a lump sum or instalments if they've not returned to work following mat leave? Thanks 😊

I was allowed to repay in instalments ten years ago - this was a London LA. Different LAs and trusts will have their own arrangements but I would expect in most cases you could negotiate to pay in instalments.

Hiya, I did it in installments and it wasn’t actually as much as you think it’ll be - mine was about £1.8k which I paid off in monthly instalments over a year. Just make sure you keep all the paperwork - the LA added the amount onto my salary by accident and then HMRC came looking for a £500 underpayment - took a while to work out but got it sorted in the end!
