How to tell the class

Name changed
Email went out today to tell the parents I was leaving (primary). I didn't know it was going out so hadn't told the class yet. I'm expecting lots of questions and a bit of upset from them tomorrow.
Any tips? I've not had to do this before

Oh that's very unfair of your SLT to send a letter like that without giving you a heads up first!

Just be honest with your class in terms of how much you'll miss them and that their new teacher will be fabulous etc Obviously, your reason is personal but you can say this...eg 'I have loved teaching all of you wonderful children, but it's time for me to do something different now.'

Good luck 🤞

I remember years ago, I had this lovely class for 2 years - year 1 and year 2. I was so fond of them, and they of me, or so I thought! I decided to move abroad and was really worried that they would all be really upset. I expected crying etc, so timed it just before break so I could console the upset children. They barely blinked at the news, and carried on as before!! I was glad they weren't upset but slightly offended they weren't going to miss me more...

I’m surprised you wasnt notified that they were announcing your departure first so that you could inform your class.

to be honest with you, it will have no real impact whatsoever on your class as they will be moving onto a new teacher in September anyway. You will be forgotten then. Tough but truthful.

I've moved jobs a lot of times. The kids will be over it in seconds. Don't take it personally.
