Anyone used Thrive?

I've just come across Thrive (of all things by looking at job adverts).

I'm definitely interested in the idea behind it. I'm going to see if I can get onto one of there chats that explains a bit more.

I was just wondering if anyone here has used it in their school? I work in a junior so experience of that would be best. Obviously money is a point to consider but if it was amazing and made a total difference then it could be worth it. If it's just another thing to think about on top of the day to day grind then it's not.

Following with interest, OP. My school are hosting a course after Easter and so get a free place on it which they have approached me to do. I’d not heard of it before but recently met up with a friend who is a thrive practitioner and she sings its praises. The only potential stumbling block is if you are the only one at your setting to have done the training it may be harder to roll out as it is intended to be a whole school approach. There is an option to host an inset day at a later stage so the other classroom staff get a broad strokes overview of the program.

The more I look into it the more interested I am in doing the training! I would definitely put together something to present to your HT if you’re interested - if you have the space to host you could be the free delegate!

Very interesting about the hosting side. We can do that!

We do Thrive at our school and the kids love it! We have some trained Thrive practitioners and we have all had some level of training too.

The children get a whole class session every week linked to their whole class targets for the half term (done through a Thrive online portal) and then some children are selected for small group or 1:1 Thrive. They all really enjoy it!

We had quite a poor experience with trainers or perhaps it was the heat? It was an after school inset during a heatwave pre-pandemic, so many moons ago. Three hours of real psychology for dummies with cuddly toys. No explanation of how Thrive looked in practice.

Then an additional hour of a computer survey to give a generalised profile of everyone’s class. I was surprised to learn my year one class had trouble distinguishing imagination from real life.

There were some general guidelines but nothing else. Very disappointing as we’re heard great things especially for supporting our LAC children. In fact, have only ever heard good things, I guess we had them on a very, very bad day.
