Changing from school teaching to pgce lecturing?

I’ve been a secondary school teacher for 30 years & also have a senior leadership role. I work 0.8.
I’m really starting to feel weary with the politics and the behaviour of a hardcore minority that we never used to have before. I dread duties and as SLT I have to do a lot.
A job has come up at the local Uni lecturing in my subject for the PGCE course. I’ve been shortlisted. It’s fewer hours and much less pay but we’re paying the mortgage off in a few weeks. If I get it I’d like to leave my school completely but don’t know if this is mad. I love my colleagues and most of the kids but I do feel like I need a change and a challenge before retiring completely.
This sounds stupid but just how different will this be if I got it?

I think this would be life changing for you. I don’t think you would regret it. The stress is so much less. If you can take the pay cut, I would do it

Sounds like a good move (apart from the pay cut, though it's handy that you're coming to the end of your mortgage payments very soon). I applied for a similar move - from school to a PGCE lecturing position - but never made the cut and wasn't long-listed by the university. Good luck.
