Why would they ask this?

Agreed a settlement with my employer to finish. It has gone to union legal team and they have asked have I secured alternative employment. Why would they ask this? Any one know why pr been in simple situation?

I don’t know for certain. My best guess would be that they want to protect your continuous service record if at all possible by ensuring that your agreed last day under contract with your current employer leads straight into your first day with the new one, if you have one.
