FFS, I'm looking at another poorly Xmas

Every year term finishes and within 24 hours I get a sore throat and spend Xmas opening more boxes of tissues than presents. This year, after 12 years of snotty Christmases I have had my fill. I think that, on top of everything else that the job throws at me, I'm out. Resigning on the first day of term. Feel relieved now that I've finally made that decision.

I'm sorry you're feeling ill for Christmas- it's truly rubbish when it happens.

I am often ill during the holidays as well- I think we run on adrenaline that much during term, along with all the bugs kids bring, and then as soon as we stop, it comes out. I remember one of my early years in teaching, I got the most horrendous chest infection over Christmas- completely wiped me out, so I sympathise.

I hope you manage to have a nice Christmas- perhaps having made your decision will help you feel extra relaxed.

What are you planning to do instead? I am support staff and so far ok apart from being utterly exhausted. Last Christmas I was ill and was wiped out. Went to doctors too late really and ended up really unwell.

I'm exactly the same - I feel awful and gutted for my own children as I've been a miserable bitch!

I need a job that doesn't run me down...😞😞

I'll do supply for a bit I think. I'm thinking about getting into catering for events etc. who knows.

DH has the lurgy now.

I bumped into my head teacher today and he said I sounded rough. Nearly gave him my notice there and then.

Hi.

As a Supply I was in bed with bad cold/ flu/ covid 5 put of 6 holidays last year. I did have a bad cold in number 6 but could get up and stay indoors quietly. For COVID I did get ill the week before the holiday but it did carry into the half term.

Though I was only in 3 schools last year. Maybe moving round works…

Good luck.

If you do go into Supply make sure you’re researching new careers and retraining / applying. Don’t get stuck like I did.

12 Christmases in a row, though…. That’s terrible….
