I’m a new mentor and really need help!

So I’ve been given the role of a mentor. I’m completely new to the job. I’ve tried to do my best but I feel I’m failing him.

Can anyone just give me some basic tips as to how I can help him flourish?

Firstly, I'm sure you aren't failing him - you are probably doing better than you think. The fact that you're asking for advice shows you care!

Firstly, is he a trainee or an ECT?

Either way, there should be mentor training from either the university or the ECF provider so definitely check.

Who is the induction tutor in your school? Even if he is a trainee the induction tutor usually looks after trainees as well and should be able to provide help and advice.

Are there any other mentors in your school who you can talk to? Just to bounce ideas off/get advice. If not, maybe at another local school?
