I was employed as an unqualified teacher in FE towards the end of last year, and although it was really hard to begin with I now really enjoy it!
I've just started my teacher training to satisfy my contract, but now I'm questioning whether it's even worth it. From the beginning, nothing has been clear in terms of wages, with promises being made and quickly forgotten. The issue of contracted days is infuriating, knowing that by the end I might not even be offered a full-time contract after speaking with my colleagues (who also all seem to hate being there)... To this day I don't actually have it on paper what my full-time salary would be so really they can get away with anything.
I love the flexibility and I'm very lucky to be part of a relaxed team, but knowing that I need to dedicate the next two years to study is quite difficult, as well as there being a shortage of jobs within my specialism so by the end I'll be pretty stuck.
Is it worth carrying on just to get the qualification, or moving into something less specialised so I can afford to live outside of paying my bills?
