I work mornings only in a class. There is talk about the class going on a trip. Can I be made to work a full day? Thank you

You can't be MADE to, we usually have volunteers who just claim overtime.

No. You can be asked. And you can say yes or no.

No.

When I worked mornings I offered then took a morning off in lieu, which gave me a lovely 3 day weekend. This only worked because I had free childcare though; if I didn't I'd just be saying I couldn't do it.

mrsnjw · 05/10/2023 13:27

No time off because they would then have to pay to cover me. A three day weekend would be lovely!

If you usually only work mornings, who covers in the afternoon? They won't be needed so surely they can take that time off and pay you back another time? (Obviously, only if they are able to accommodate)

They can't make you do it. If they can't come to some voluntary arrangement with you, for extra pay or time off in lieu, then they'll have to swap in a member of staff from further up the school and you'll have to go and cover their normal work.

If the nursery is normally mornings-only, and they want to run a full-day trip, then they'll have to accept the cost implications of that.

Yep, they haven't got the funds to buy a new book for the class but want to pay me and my nn an afternoon so we can go on a trip.
