Early Years sink design

I am involved in setting up an International School outside the UK. Currently working on design of sink area in the Early Years rooms. Can anyone suggest:

  1. Should the sink be primarily child or adult height?
  2. If either child or adult height, what actual height would that be?
There will be toilets with wash basins accessible from the classroom for children to wash their hands which will obviously be child sized. But there will be only one sink in the classroom, so need to figure out if this is sized for children or adults.

Can't imagine why nobody would post on this fascinating thread title!

Little bump from me in case somebody takes pity on me and shares their wisdom....

I think I'd go for adult height, if you can only have one. Children can still use it, with a booster step (IKEA), and it will be better for adults backs. They'll probably need to fill buckets of water for water play, so make sure there's room to do that. As well as using it for washing up paints, filling jugs of water, snack prep, hand washing etc.

I don't think I've ever had a classroom without an adult height sink.

Thanks Moonsoup and southchinasea...I have updated our designs.
I know it's beyond the sink scope, but if you had to share a list of things you most love/hate in an EY classroom what would they be? We are still recruiting our EY team, so really appreciate input from experienced EY practitioners.

For designs, can you look at a website like Envoplan who deal with school areas?

@Glorifried just looked at it, it's great, thanks. Appreciate the input plus any others .

The Early Excellence and Community Playthings websites have some helpful ideas re room layout too.

I’m not a teacher so can’t comment on your direct question. Is this a school for international students or local to that country. You might want to see if there are forums for teachers in either situation teaching in that country. They may know of any regulations on schools and their buildings.
