Supply / operation

I am a supply teacher.

So I have saved after being lucky and having a good run of work to not have to stress about summer. except I got a call to say my operation is now 2nd week September and I need a 4 week recovery period minimum. I am debating if I just cancel the surgery as I cannot afford to not work.

Has anyone got a magic wand with a solution?

Not a magic solution. If you work with an agency you may be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay.

Hope all goes well

September is often quietest for supply, so the timing could be worse.

Your union may have a hardship fund, and if so, this is the sort of situation that would merit applying. The NEU page below also signposts the Education Support Partnership and some other charities which might be able to help.

Don't miss out on your operation if you can possibly help it, and don't be too proud to try these routes for some help.

I don't know if you'll have picked up the above messages, so I'm hoping that quoting you will mean you get a notification...

Thank you everyone. My husband has said not to worry as I need the operation. I guess I just saw the date and really stressed about work. I realise we are lucky to be in a position that we don’t need to worry. Thanks for the links though.

just as an aside my agency have said that they can’t pay sick pay as I won’t have worked over summer. Ironically if I worked in September they’d pay sick pay but I am on holiday that worst week as it’s normally slow.
