New school

Just looking for opinions/advice/words of reassurance!

I wasn’t actively looking for a new job as I’ve been at my current school for ten years. My year group partner left last year and a new team leader was out in place. I wasn’t feeling happy so applied for a new job which I then was offered and I accepted.

I had my transition day last week and feel kind I’ve made a huge mistake. The new school seems disorganised and work load heavy - I’m not sure if I’m just feeling overwhelmed as it’s new and I’ve been in the same school for so long or if I have made a big mistake! Did anyone else feel like this when joining a new school and was it as bad as you thought ?!

You will feel that though because you’ve been in one workplace for so long - I would give it a shot and if after a term you don’t feel it is for you then look for something else.

Hiya,

I started a new job at Easter and within a few weeks things were difficult, mostly in terms of how the kids are dealt (or not dealt!) with.

I gave it my best shot, discussed my concerns with the pastoral/behaviour team, met with the AH in charge of behaviour and even spoke with the Head.

They all made it very clear that they won’t consider making any changes to the system and firmly believe it’s working.

After almost one term there I’ve decided it’s not for me and I can’t fight against the culture of the whole school no matter how hard I try, and I know I won’t be supported by SLT.

My old school have offered me a job - I spent a long time deliberating but eventually decided I’m going to go back, starting January.

Will be handing in my resignation in October - it won’t be taken well, particularly since I’ll only have done two terms, but I know it’s the right decision for my own well-being and happiness.

Definitely give it a good shot in September but don’t feel bad for wanting to leave so soon.

Hope this provides some reassurance! You’ve got to do what’s right for you and go with your gut.

Feel free to PM me if you want a chat ☺️
