NEU strike dates announced

NEU national strike days have been announced for the 5th and 7th July.

I know there is a lot of chat on twitter about it being better to wait for September and co-ordinated action, but the NEU have made this decision with the knowledge of some idea of turnout from NEU activate, and presumably have spoken to NAHT and NASUWT about their current projected turnout.

I know in my branch we are not at 50% yet (so please vote if you haven't already).

The person who could have averted these strikes was Gillian Keegan- but she has refused to negotiate with the unions yet again.

The timing feels very cynical. It hits Year 6 transition day in much of the country. I hope it doesn’t undermine co-ordinated action, which is in my view the only way we are going to get anywhere.

Year 6 transition happens on a Thursday where I am so I'm not sure that's it. And whilst not ideal it can be rearranged.

I did say much of the country, not all. 5 July is certainly the coordinated transition day for the West Midlands.

MrsHamlet · 17/06/2023 21:32

Our transition days aren't on those days either.

buckeyetree · 17/06/2023 21:34

I've worked in primaries for over a decade and hadn't ever realised there was a 'typical' transition day. I must check when ours is.

It's a pain in the bloody backside!!!!

Wed 5th is the Y6 transition day and both the 5th and the 7th have various trips or extra-curricular things booked as it's that time of year.

Feels like this one will impact the staff and schools more than the parents if I'm honest. 🤨

The 7th affects my sons sports day

luter · 18/06/2023 08:42

I'm in primary and it clashes with some of our transition days and sports day. We've known for a while there was likely to be some strike action that week so had already sorted some alternative dates for these activities.

The Centre Parcs prices are creeping up for the week beginning 3 July. Expect a hit on attendance for that week, especially Thursday 6th.

I’m in the process of leaving the NASUWT for another union but I’m still on their mailing list. They have emailed members this evening criticising the NEU for not communicating their plans for the July strikes with other unions.
