Primary teachers - next year?

Do you know what year group you're going to be in?
If not, do you know when you'll find out?
If yes, are you happy?
Feeling very anxious, I don't know yet and no indication of when we'll find out. 27th is moving up morning so we have to know before then, just worried it'll be the night before at this rate!

Yes, I know. We've done it earlier than normal this year so that we can start transition sessions earlier and have more of them. We have a LOT of children who will find the changes hard and felt we needed to do a longer, more detailed transition for the children and staff. I'm happy with where I am going to be. Support staff positions aren't finalised yet as that is a very complex jigsaw to put together, but I think it's nearly done.

I don't know yet and don't know when we're finding out. I have asked (more than once) but apparently it's still undecided 🤔

missingmytea · 14/06/2023 19:36

We finish next week in Scotland so we're mid move. I'm going to P1 and quite nervous as it's much more play based than I am used to.

BG2015 · 14/06/2023 20:13

I've been told I'm class sharing Y2 with another teacher. Not happy.

I was moved out of Y2 in November because of an ongoing health issue, very upset at the time but on reflection it was the right thing to do for stability of the class and my well being.

Now my health is vastly improved but I'm still only being given 3 possibly 2.5 days with Y2. Remaining days will be covering other classes (which is what I've been doing and hate it)

My HT knows I'm not happy as was hoping for a fulltime class.

I’m a primary HT so from a different perspective -

We ask the teaching colleagues to submit 3 preferences that they would like in regards to a year group for the next academic year in roughly mid May as they will know then if they are moving on typically…

I sit down with the senior leadership team in the first week of June after the resignation deadline has passed as we know then who is leaving and we discuss staffing arrangements for the new academic year. We do often have teaching vacancies to fill come that time and these are often filled by ECTs or teachers looking to return to the profession. Based on requests, we provisionally allocate the classes and accommodate where we can (this is not always possible) and then we finalise once we fully recruit. I usually like to announce this to staff mid/late June ready for the transition day on the first week in July. I’m announcing the new class allocations for 2023-24 on Monday to the teaching team. Support staff will move with that individual class to give the pupils some continuity.

We never move! Small school. So grateful.

BG2015 · 15/06/2023 20:58

We don't either.
Last person left 6 years ago. Small village school.

wineandsunshine · 15/06/2023 21:03

We don't know and unsure when we will find out!

Our school is still trying to recruit after failed interviews this week.

namechangedyetagain · 15/06/2023 22:05

I'm jumping ship to a new school so will be having a mixed 3/4 class. Small village school so will be a completely new experience for me!

5childrenand · 16/06/2023 22:39

We just found out this week

Hoppingroo · 24/06/2023 17:33

I found out last week - very pleased.

wineandsunshine · 24/06/2023 22:25

Apparently we find out Wednesday 🙄

Minimochi · 25/06/2023 10:13

I've known for a few weeks. We were able to state preferences in February and then had a meeting to discuss what we were hoping for in the next academic year. I'm staying in my current year group, which I'm happy about. I'll be with an entirely new team and looking forward to that.
Everyone, including TAs, found out where they are going to be last week.
We are a large four-form-entry school.

You sound like a great head! I have never once been asked for my preference.

I am now in special education and hoping I get to stay in my current class! 🤞 We won’t find out until mid July, though! 😬

wineandsunshine · 29/06/2023 07:22

I'm moving from Y5 to Y3! Very excited for a new challenge and team 😊

BG2015 · 29/06/2023 16:47

I'm now doing a class share in Year 1 with another fulltime teacher, just to accommodate a part time member of staff who wants a class. Neither of us are happy.

Lots of bad feeling and staff demoralised this year.

Well this is ridiculous! Why on earth should a full time teacher share a class with someone part time who “wants a class”?! I’m part time and I’ll do whatever I’m asked to (within reason!!) Incidentally, I’d love part time PPA cover work!

BG2015 · 01/07/2023 07:10

No, we are 2 fulltime members of staff sharing a Y1 class, the other part time staff member is sharing a class with another part time member in Y2.

I'm covering Y4 one day plus interventions for a morning and then PPA for my 2 days out of Y1.My partner teacher is covering Reception for 1.5 days and Year 5 the other days, plus her PPA.

It's crazy.
