Mixed KS2 age groups - read aloud??

A family friend has an interview for a small village school with a mixed age KS2 class. She's been asked to do a story time session with a book if her choice.

Any suggestions for something that would work for mixed ages? I am having absolute brain fade as I've only ever taught single age classes in big inner city schools.

Do you think a picture book is best? What about an opening extract from a chapter book to then do some prediction questioning?

All ideas welcomed!

Mixed age as in Y3-6? If so, tell her run. Horrible time to be in mixed year groups with Ofsted. They have no idea what it's like to teach more than one year group at once and make no allowances for it. I've recently taught Y3-5 and it was pretty awful, despite being a nice school. Then there's the issue of subject leadership in a tiny school...
