School interview questions

Help please!

I have an interview soon for a school admin job. I am feeling okay preparing for the interview and tasks but I have been told that there will be questions that a group of children have planned to ask me.

I’ve not got any school experience bar helping out in the classroom occasionally, so I have no idea what sort of things they will ask - will it be related to the role or wildly personal? 😁

Any thoughts/experience would be appreciated!

It will most likely be both - they will probably have had help devising their question list, so it won't be entirely random. I would be prepared for things like "why do you want to work at our school?" and "what things can you bring to the role", but also come prepared with a child-friendly joke (my favourite at the moment is: 'what do you get if you cross an angry sheep with an angry cow? Someone who's in a very baaaaaaaad mooooooood!').

Their questions will be vetted in advance, so they won't ask anything inappropriate.

Even in a school office, you'll need to interact with children sometimes. The main purpose of this part of the interview is to see how you interact with them- friendly but maintaining boundaries is what you are going for.

And yes, a child friendly joke would be a good thing!

Sorry it’s taken me a while to come back, thank you both for your help - you were right that the kids questions were vetted so no really tricky ones! I got asked about favourite subjects, books, and a few questions about the school’s ethos. It was clearly to see how I coped interacting with the kids as you said.

I must have done OK as I got the job 😊
