Has anyone had their ballot paper?

I haven't yet and never got one at all last time.

I've heard the rules are 50% of ballot return rate is need per school for the ballot to be actionable? Is this correct

We don't have rep at school.

It’s 50% of the total membership That have to vote to meet the threshold.

Hayliebells · 22/05/2023 20:28

You're right, NASUWT have organised it so they'll be striking on a school by school basis. I guess they think they're even less likely to meet the overall threshold, as so many have switched to NEU. Tbh, if you really want to strike, I'd just switch too. I've posted my new NEU ballot, I got it a day after they opened the ballot.

NeighbourhoodonWatch · 22/05/2023 21:24

That is so bizarre. Does that mean some schools in one area may strike and others not?

(Disclaimer - I am an NEU rep but hadn't heard the NASUWT were doing this.)

noblegiraffe · 22/05/2023 21:48

The ballot hasn't opened yet though, not till 5th June.

Margo34 · 23/05/2023 07:39

Seems a weird way to ballot!

They're definitely trying harder this time with their organisation of it though - I've had email, text and flyer through the post reminding me about it!

cherrypied · 23/05/2023 19:18

So bizarre and wants me to move more towards NEU. I'm just mystified at the lack of organisation for what should have been a powerful message. It's the only thing we can do and the people who did it fucked it up!

The words couldn't organise a strike in a match factory spring to mind!

Oh well.

I don't get why people are calling it bizarre. It's bizarre already that in a school some teachers are on strike and some aren't frankly. It's just a way to get around the 50% threshold and allow NASUWT members who want to stike a better chance of striking. I say all this as a member of the NEU.

Lancrelady80 · 25/05/2023 20:40

Heard a big fat zero so far. Got my ballot paper from UNISON for my HLTA role tho.

welshmercury · 25/05/2023 22:31

In my school there were 3 NASUWT people and everyone else was NEU and striked at various points. So we wouldn’t meet the threshold for 50%.

Wouldn’t that mean if 2 of you voted then you could strike because you’d meet the 50% threshold?

Yes, that's what it would mean.
