Mad to leave easy PT Post ?

To leave a PT teaching post that is NOT especially workload heavy to go FT in something that is not teaching but is education related and gives me the holidays?

  • longer commute but FT means considerably more money - open up new doors for us as a family
  • I feel “done” with teaching and have no interest in progressing to SLT in current school
  • Ten years ago this was my dream job
  • I have two primary age DC and my job at the moment allows me to pick them up at 5 on my working days , I don’t do over much work at home, we are very settled in a routine that works for our family
  • I can do current role standing on my head as been teaching so long
  • not feeling particularly stimulated or rewarded any more however
  • have been part time for years to “fit around the boys” now is it time for me?
  • no possibility of this new role being PT, offer was very clear
Argh ! WWYD?

It will be a big adjustment. How much do you know about the new job, new team and prospects for the future? Why is the role vacant and have you been able to get a good impression of whether it will be sensible onboarding? How easy have other former teachers at your new employer found it to adjust to working there - are there examples of success they can point to and confidently say “we can support you to succeed here like this”.

I’d try it. You could return to teaching if you hate it. Once both your boys are y5/y6 then you may find it’s a lot easier to cope with working FT as they will be getting more independent.

I think I'd go for it. You're not happy where you are anyway. If it's not the right fit, you can try something else.

@Amblesidebadger thank you ! Yes I am still going round in circles
from the jist I got everyone who has made the move loves it and would not go back to classroom teaching
However at the back of my head I do feel that I would be able to get another Pt class teacher role if it didn’t work out
