A Return to Primary Teaching, Interview Idea

Good afternoon all :)

I just thought I'd put this out there to see if anyone had any advice for me. I completed my PGCE 5 years ago and started teaching but for health reasons I had to put my career on hold. 4 years later I'm finally ready to return to teaching and I feel completely out the loop with how things have progressed. I've been asked to prepare a 20 minute story-time session focused on developing speaking and listening skills for a class of up to 30 Y4 mixed ability children.

I have great ideas for more core lessons and subjects but after being absent from teaching for almost half a decade this topic makes me really nervous. Story time was always based around the children listening and enjoying and learning new vocabulary when I was teaching. I am unsure on exactly what the SLT will be expecting to observe. Does anyone have any advice on how they would expect this task to be delivered?

Really appreciate any advice.

Amelia

BBC Bitesize KS2 may have some speaking and listening ideas.
I hope it all goes well.

Teaching prosody in a reading session is something that's been introduced this academic year. There are plenty of ideas online if you search for prosody ks2. If you also have a look at what the KPIs are for year 4 speaking and listening you can pick out one to focus on for the lesson. Good luck!
