Interview Dilemma

I am currently in a middle leader position in a pastoral role, full time. There is no option in this job to keep my TLR and go part time so I have applied for two other jobs. I have been invited to interview for both.

Job 1. 3 days per week teaching my subject.
Pros - more time with children
Cons - feels like a step backwards and still lots of planning/marking.
Interview next week

Job 2. Full time pastoral support role.
Pros - can focus on the bit of the job I like the best. No planning or marking so evenings and weekends back.
Cons - not as much time with the children.
Interview week after next

Both pay about the same and both schools are similar.

Long term, I would like to return to the classroom and aim towards SLT.

Which one would you prioritise/pick?

Is job 2 still a teaching role will you still be paid to scale and contribute to TPS?

WhatTheFlipToDo · 23/04/2023 13:05

@NEmama No. It will be the local authority pension scheme and pay scale.

@WhatTheFlipToDo is it full year working or term time.

Tps is so good makes a difference for your decision

WhatTheFlipToDo · 23/04/2023 16:19

Both jobs are term time only. Same LEA as children’s school too so all the same holidays (bar inset days)

How old are your kids?

Sorry I posted on other thread. I'd go for the first interview- nothing to lose then you can make a decision on the day.

Itstarts · 24/04/2023 22:26

Why would you not go to both and then decide which conversation/interview felt more natural?

I have a similar dilemma, I have 3 interviews this week and am not fussed about any of them but not yet heard if I've got an interview for 2 that I really want. The one I want the most isn't interviewing until 25th May so if I'm successful in these 3 I don't know whether to accept and then turn them down at a later date or be honest and say I'm waiting for another offer and risk not getting them.

What role is it

WhatTheFlipToDo · 25/04/2023 17:23

I withdrew from the interview today - very local school so didn’t want to burn bridges by messing anyone around.

Children are 4 and 7.
