I’d love to hear stories of parents who communicated with you in way that got the best for everyone. Any stories about what not to do as a parent is also very interesting to me.

Hah! Great response. Actually, I’m a parent and podcaster wanting to cover this in an episode. Worst was an SEN who didn’t read my daughter’s Ed Psych report then stopped me when I tried to point out some interesting issues that it raised to say ‘Face it, your daughter will never be anything more than average, and the sooner you accept it the better.’

I ended the meeting right then.

Best is when they give some positive points followed by clear guidance on what they see as the problems/issues so that we can discuss a way forward. I always make notes so that my daughter has something to refer back to, and always include her in the meeting, which surprises some teachers. I like a three way dialogue so nothing gets lost in translation.
