Is there anyway to be paid at UPS if you have not passed threshold? Also, can a school employ some teachers on the ‘Main’ pay grade and other colleagues on county/school/MAT specific pay grades?

I believe any teacher can apply for UPS once you have the required evidence, you don't have to be top of mps to apply.

Are some on mps because they were employed pre academy status - it happened at the University I worked at some were paid on teacher mps /ups and paid in to tps/local gov scheme when they were a training college - new members after merger with a university, were uni rates and pension, over time numbers on old contracts go down, eventually don't exist but can take years.

I believe that MATs can employ new staff on different pay scales to staff who were already in place when they were a MAT, but it's very divisive.

If they use their own pay scales then the criteria for UPS levels of pay could be different.

If you're concerned about your pay then speaking to your union is probably your best bet.
