I have a few things to do for next week - so far done absolutely nothing 🙈

Had a lovely Christmas though and been playing with DS with his new toys/seeing family and friends. Brought DS to the indoor trampoline centre this morning but sat here mumsnetting and watching his efforts.

I told myself I would do it in the week before Christmas weekend but that didn't happen.

Hoping to feel more productive tomorrow 😂

I wrote up some minutes yesterday (union rep). Now psyching myself up to mark some essays, but Mumsnetting instead 😂

I still feel totally drained. We're back on Wednesday which is imo obscene.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/12/2022 16:21

@ElegantPuma you've done more than me then 😂

@itneverstopsraining sorry you're still drained 😔 I always think one of the issues with Christmas holidays is that they don't tend to be restful. We are back Tuesday 😲 know we finished early but it does seem very soon after New Year.

Reporting back very smugly to say that I have marked the aforementioned essays 🙂

Not doing anything else until Tuesday now - INSET on Wednesday.

We didn't stop until the 22nd so not sure quite why we're back so early! Had a day in today and feel somewhat better, but not ready to face the January term. I always find it a very long, dark, miserable term.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/12/2022 19:14

Go you @ElegantPuma 🥳

@itneverstopsraining that seems really harsh 😕 hopefully you will get the days somewhere else.

No INSET for me so straight back to it.

January is tough! Too dark/cold/miserable and all the Christmas things have gone 🙂

I’m a second year ECT and have done zero work. We do not get paid to stress during the holidays. This time is for me to enjoy so that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ll deal with school work when I’m back next week!

yes, this is the term I am dreading the most 😖 any tips for making it slightly more bearable? Does it get easier the longer you teach?

School broke up on the 20th Dec… worked from home until the 23rd… have had a few days off since then and only checking emails once daily. School re-opens to students on the 5th. Staff back in on the 3rd for two inset days.
I used to work all the way through holidays but it isn’t healthy at all - always good to have a worklife balance.

Procrastination4 · 31/12/2022 09:16

I don’t teach in England but am fascinated at the thought that someone may have to check emails during holidays, when the whole school is closed. Are you required to do so? Why on earth would someone be emailing a school during the holidays? If you’re checking emails voluntarily, it’s something that I’d put an end to from now on. In other work environments, if you send an email to someone who’s on holiday you get an “out of office” message. Perhaps you should consider something similar? @good96

ElegantPuma · 31/12/2022 09:23

@Procrastination4 my OOO alert goes on literally seconds after we break up for a holiday. I also never check work emails at home in the evenings or weekends. IME, I am unusual in having such strict boundaries, but it works very well for me.

I’m also a second year ECT and have done no work. Stayed late most nights the week we broke up to get mocks marked and plan for first few days back. It’s been lovely! Happy New Year all ☺️
